A persona non-grata at Arsenal seems a VIP in France. Gervinho seems a wanted man in the French Ligue 1. First, it was an interest from Lyon but now, another bigwig in the French league, Marseille have joined the race for the Ivorian international. According to Le 10 Sport, Marseille are seriously interested in luring Gervinho to Stade Velodrome this summer. Gervinho has dropped off the pecking order in the twilight of last season and feelers from the Emirates claim Arsenal will be ready to cash in on him should a decent offer come in. Arsenal are in the market for a new versatile striker and the arrival will further push the former Lille man out of reckoning and with the World Cup coming in the summer of 2014, he will be keen to have regular football. What then is the solution?
Certainly, a move away from the club is the solution and for the move, Marseille want a loan move but that wouldn’t favour Arsenal. He has just 2 years left on his current deal and a season loan means he will return to Arsenal with a year left and should he fail to impress, he might not get a buyer which means Arsenal might be forced to offer him a new deal in a bid to get a decent fee for him or risk loosing him for free.
If he is already adjudged surplus to requirements at the Emirates, Arsenal should insist any interested club buy him outrightly. Gervinho isn’t a bad player, he just didn’t get the grips of the Premier league. He might return to the Championat and set it on fire like he did in his Lille days.
