Arsenal have been linked with a rumoured return to Lille to lure yet another winger after the failed project of Ivorian attacker, Gervinho. This time it is Dimitri Payet. The Dailymail reports that Wenger is pondering a move for the Lille winger that contributed 25 goals to Lille’s Ligue 1 adventure (12 goals, 13 assists). The assists haul is the third best in Europe’s 5 best leagues last season.
But does Arsenal need another winger? The Gunners sure do need another winger with the likely exit of Gervinho to Marseille. Payet might have been lethal in Ligue 1 but that doesn’t automatically mean he will be a thorn in the flesh of Premier League defenders. Gervinho left Lille on the back of 14 league goals and 10 assists that helped them win the French league but since his switch, he has failed to replicate that rich vein of goalscoring form at Arsenal, having failed to score more than 10 league goals in his 2 combined season for Arsenal. While not saying there will be a deja vu should Payet follow suit, he could end up having the effect Hazard had last season with Chelsea.
Arsenal have also been linked with Marseille’s diminutive playmaker Mathieu Valbuena. I would advise a move for the Marseille man. He already has loads of experience at the highest level; French Ligue, Champions League and for France unlike Payet that doesn’t.
