Rafa Benitez is looking to add to his strike force, after losing Edinson Cavani to Paris Saint-Germain, and is looking at Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud.
Napoli, who have already signed principal Arsenal target Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid, are looking to bolster their attack further, and want Olivier Giroud to do it. Rafa Benitez believes that Olivier Giroud and Higuain will make an effective strike partnership, with Giroud playing as a traditional striker, while Higuain playing behind him.
Gazzetta dello Sport have reported that Napoli’s executives will meet Arsenal during the Emirates Cup, to discuss the possibility of any transfer between the clubs. Napoli are also looking at Roma’s Pablo Osvaldo and Palermo’s Abel Hernandez, as an alternative to Giroud, if Arsenal refuse to sell. It is not only Napoli who is looking towards Arsenal French striker, but also Valencia, who lost Roberto Soldado to Arsenal’s North London rival’s Tottenham, and want Giroud to replace him.
Olivier Giroud, who scored 17 goals last season in all competitions, is currently the Gunners’ first choice striker, and Arséne Wenger will be unwilling to let any player leave, let alone a player, whom he has professed to love to see play.
Olivier Giroud scored a fortuitous overhead kick, in their 2-2 draw against Napoli, in the second match of the Emirates Cup. He made space for himself on a corner, and Giroud shot was deflected into the net by Bacary Sagna’s back, who seems to have returned to his old self, putting in some great tackles and beautiful crosses.
