The footballing world is still shocked at the coup Wenger pulled off on deadline’s day to land German highly rated midfielder Mesut Ozil. Reports had it that PSG and Manchester United also made late efforts to hijack the bid. While the Red Devils have denied making a move, Laurent Blanc have confirmed the French giants’ approach.
“Both players would have been good.
“To my knowledge, the only negotiations that took place were over Ozil.”
Though short but still interesting thoughts from the PSG gaffer. It is just a confirmation of the fact that Arsenal are still attractive and Ozil’s move wasn’t financially motivated like Real Madrid have been saying. Because if all Ozil wanted was more money, he would have opted for PSG, I am sure the French moneybags could have topped any offer Arsenal made to him. He obviously moved for footballing reasons with a desire to improve his game and who else could have giving him that opportunity if not Le Prof? Arsenal play the attacking football which involves quick sleek passing style that he craves.
It brings me to wonder why PSG were after him in the first place. They have Pastore, and Moura who they just bought in the last winter window and they are all attacking midfielders, why do they need another one? Too many good players jostling for a particular position would just create unhealthy rivalry in the team.
As for Arsenal, we have proven that we can attract the best talents and even beat the moneybags to them since not all of them were goggles that only see cash. Now that we have done that with Ozil, let’s hope we can do that with Rooney, Suarez or Lewandowski.
