Robert Pires’ son Theo wore his father’s famous number seven as he played for the Gunners’ under-10 team against West Ham at the weekend.
The elder Pires wore number seven throughout his entire club career, with Arsenal and every other team.
The only exception was one season at Aston Villa where he wore number eight.
It therefore makes sense that his son in the Arsenal academy would wear the number, if he has any ambitions to take after his father.
The former Gunner posted a picture on Instagram of Theo taking a corner during the match:
Theo Pires is 10 years old, and signed for the Arsenal Academy when he was just eight.
A few months later, the youngster became captain of the under-nine side.
Theo reportedly impressed coaches during his initial period after joining the academy, hence the reward of captaincy.
Now the young Pires is playing for the u10s, but I’m sure he has his sights set on the next level.
It must be tough to follow in the footsteps of such a famous father, particularly at the club where he made his name.
So far, the Hale End Academy boy is doing a good job of living up to expectations.
Good luck to him for the next stages!
