Arsenal defender Mattieu Debuchy has been sent out on loan to St Etienne until the end of the season.

The right-back has failed to establish himself in the Arsenal side since being ousted by Hector Bellerin in 2014.

Debuchy has made just 13 Premier League appearances in his three-and-a-half year spell at the club.

The 32-year-old has not been utilised in the Premier League by Arsene Wenger this season, but does have seven appearances via the Carabao and EFL Cups and Europa League.

Debuchy joins St Etienne who are currently placed 14th in Ligue 1.

The former Newcastle United defender still has 18 months to run on his contract worth £80,000-a-week.

The France international said earlier in January he would be happy to find a new club this month.

“I want to leave, to find a new challenge,” he told RMC Sport (via Sky Sports). “The fact I’m playing well will give me opportunities.

“We’ll see if there are good opportunities in the transfer window. I’m open
