Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Red Bull Leipzig defender Lukas Klostermann, whose impressive performances have attracted much interest from Europe’s top clubs, according to The Express.
Klostermann has been at Leipzig since 2014, and has a contract keeping him at the club until 2021.
Arsenal were reportedly keen on bringing in Klostermann just prior to the 2016/17 season, but nothing materialised.
Unai Emery apparently sees Arsenal’s defence as the main problem which needs addressing at the Emirates, with Per Mertesacker leaving and taking on a coaching role, as well as players like Shkodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny underwhelming last season.
Emery has already brought in his first signing, Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus on a free transfer, but he mainly plays as a right back or right wing back.
Klostermann was a vital part of the Leipzig squad which gained European qualification and made it to the quarter-finals of the Europa League last season.
The vast experience he has at such a youthful age could be a very useful asset to Emery at Arsenal if he were to make a switch from Germany to England.
