Petr Cech has sent a welcome message to new Arsenal signing Stephan Lichtsteiner.

The Gunners completed a swoop to sign the experienced Switzerland international in a free transfer from Serie A giants Juventus on Tuesday evening.

The 34-year-old was an important squad player in Turin and the full-back helped Juventus to win seven Serie A titles and four Coppa Italia crowns.

Lichtsteiner will be tasked with using his experience to solidify the Arsenal defence under Arsene Wenger’s replacement Unai Emery.

The Swiss captain will team up with Czech Republic goalkeeper Cech at The Emirates as the experienced duo look to guide Arsenal to a return to the Champions League next term.

The Arsenal number one was clearly happy to see the Gunners land one of Europe’s most experienced full-backs.

Cech wrote on Twitter: “Herzlich willkommen Stephan [Welcome Stephan]”

Lichtsteiner will challenge Spanish right-back Hector Bellerin for a spot in the Arsenal team next season.

The Gunners finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last term after conceding 54 goals in 38 games in the English top flight last term.

Arsenal lost 3-0 to Premier League champions Manchester City in the League Cup final last term to miss out on silverware in their final season in charge.
