Arsenal could be set to miss out on Ousmane Dembele this summer with Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu adamant that the attacker will not be leaving.
Signed from Borussia Dortmund last year in a deal worth up to £135million, the Frenchman suffered a year to forget at the Nou Camp through injury.
Having only featured in three games for the Spanish giants prior to the turn of the year, the 21-year-old was restricted to only 23 appearances for Barca.
While his form did improve towards the end of the season, it hasn’t stopped talk of a swift exit from the club this summer with Arsenal and Liverpool both keen on the player.
However, after paying out big money on the player, Bartomeu has stated that Barca are expecting Dembele to be playing at a high level for them next season.
[Philippe] Coutinho, [Ousmane] Dembele are for us a big investment,” he told the Associated Press.
“They are very important players and we expect a lot from them.
“But Dembele is a very young player, a very talented player that we are, of course, expecting a lot from.
“He’s been demonstrating during the season that he’s a good young player for us. But, of course, next season will be different.
“It’s not easy to play in Barcelona the first year because the model of football is quite different from the rest.
