Arsenal have made a “huge breakthrough” in contract negotiations with playmaker Mesut Ozil, according to a recent report.
The Sun has revealed that the 28-year-old has indicated to the club that he is ready to agree terms for a stunning £225,000-a-week wage deal.
The newspaper revealed on their website that the north London club have been eager to renew both Ozil and team mate Alexis Sanchez’ contracts and are close to finalising one of those.
It is understood that the German international’s representatives have been hunting for a European club move for the attacking midfielder this summer, but his agents have been unsuccessful because of the large wage price tag.
While Ozil appears close to securing a new deal, the 28-year-old looks unlikely to feature in the club’s Premier League opener against Leicester on Friday as the manager has confirmed on their official website that he suffered a knock to his ankle leaving him out of training earlier in the week.
