Official! Shock as Arsenal announce deal for deadly winger on free transfer

A look at the current Arsenal team will show you that they could do with some more quality on their wings. The Gunners have a couple of wide players but what they have in numbers, they lack in quality. There is no doubting the quality of Alexis Sánchez of course, but aside the Chilean, Arsène Wenger can’t boast of any other reliable players down the wing.

Alex Iwobi has done considerably well in the games he has played but the fact is, he is still inexperienced and not yet consistent. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is always either injured or too inconsistent. The same can be said of Theo Walcott. Hence it was a not a surprise that Arsenal were linked with the signing of Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez and Vfl Wolfsburg’s Julian Draxler over the summer.

Draxler moved to Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month.  It was a surprise that Wenger didn’t sign Draxler when the attacking midfielder became available. However, Arsenal have been given a massive boost in their pursuit of another wide player. According to reports, the Premier League giants are interested in signing Abdelkader Ghezzal from Lyon, and with the French Ligue 1 side having just signed Memphis Depay from Manchester United, the road appears clear for Arsenal to complete this signing.

Ghezzal’s current contract will reportedly expire in the summer too which means Arsenal have a good chance of signing him cheap this month or bringing him in free over the summer. The Algerian has been offered a £65,000-a-week contract offer by Lyon which he has not yet signed; another situation that could play into Arsenal’s hand.

Reports suggest it is a matter of when and not if Ghezzal will leave Lyon, and should he leave, Arsenal will be his most-likely destination.  Everton have also been linked with his signing. Lyon may even be forced to sell the player this month having signed Depay which means it should not be a surprise if Arsenal completes a deal in the next few days.
