Arsenal have been drawn into a contract renewal saga by Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, but recent reports have indicated that it is the former that is close to signing a deal.
The El Confidencial reporter Kike Marin tweeted to say the Chilean’s talks were progressing well.
However, Mesut Ozil is still said to be a long way off agreeing terms with the Gunners.
And according to Marin it’s all down to cold, hard cash.
He tweeted “The renewal of Ozil by @Arsenal is VERY complicated ($$$$) Not so the one of Alexis, who may be close. #Arsenal.”
One can conclude with this report that Arsenal have prioritized Alexis Sanchez’s deal over Ozil’s even though both players are demanding similar wages.
They both want between £250,000-a-week and £300,000-a-week – significant increases on their current deals which are both worth less than £150,000-a-week.
Boss Arsene Wenger said yesterday that he expected Sanchez to stay.
He told beIN SPORTS: “It always starts with money, it finishes with money and in between the players want to stay or want to go.
“When the players want to stay it’s easier to find an agreement. We can certainly find an agreement. You cannot put the club in jeopardy as well for the players.
“I think no matter what happens we’ll try to keep them and we’ll go as high as we can and if we cannot go further, we cannot go further. That’s basically it. That’s the way you have to manage a football club.
