Arsenal have reportedly completed the signing Konstantino Mavropanos from PAS Giannina. The 20-year-old is expected to head out on loan after he completed his move, which is thought to have cost Arsenal in the region of £2.2million.
According to the Daily Mirror, the British tabloid on Wednesday reported that the club was in talks to sign the centre-half and Arsene Wenger confirmed talks were on cards following Arsenal Premier League match against Chelsea.
When asked about if Mavropanos would join the club, Wenger said:
“Yes, but he’s not ready to play for us. We’ll give him out on loan.”
An Arsenal statement read: “Young Greek defender Konstantinos Mavropanos has signed for us.
“The 20 year-old centre-back arrives from PAS Giannina, where he has made 16 Greek Super League appearances since breaking into the first team last season.
“We’d like to welcome Konstantinos to the club and wish him well for the future.”
Bundesliga side Werder Bremen are understood to be a likely loan destination for the Greek Under-21 international.
He has been superb at both end s in his first full season in Greece’s Super League for PAS Giannina, scoring three goals in 14 appearances.
He follows Borussia Dortmund scout Sven Mislintat as first January signing since Mislintat’s arrival in November.
Mislintat’s remit is understood to be to discover young, talented players and help them develop at Arsenal in order to avoid paying huge transfer fees in the future.
