Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s game with Sunderland tomorrow, Arsene Wenger gave an update on Mesut Ozil contract situation, in which he subtly dismissed the possibility of the player moving to Fenerbahce, and subtly claims talks are progressing with Arsenal.
Talks have reportedly been stalled over Ozil’s wage demand but Wenger seem more confident that the German midfield schemer would eventually put pen to paper on a long contract. However, Wenger is always found evading the question for Alexis Sanchez’s deal, whose contract is also up in 2018.
Wenger was quizzed at his press conference this morning and he was asked about how the talks were on going with the playmaker, he agreed that talks were progressing.
“There is nothing really concrete enough to talk about,”he smiled.
“It is moving along.”
Nonetheless, it is wisdom not to get ahead of ourselves, but the deal for Ozil is as good as done. Playing week in and out, and Arsenal in pole position for the title, there’s actually no reason for the player to want to leave London sooner.
As far as Alexis is concerned, everything’s gone a little bit quiet. I’m just hoping that’s not a bad sign.
