According to the official website of the Major League Soccer, Arsenal are watching Aston Villa and United States’ Brad Guzan with the hope of making a move for the player. Guzan stood firm between Aston Villa’s posts when Arsenal played them on the opening day of the current premier league season. His performance on that day ensured Aston Villa defeated the gunners 3-1.
That performance seems to have caught Wenger’s eye according to the Major league soccer’s official website. The website adds that Arsenal have sent their scouts to watch the player in the last 2 premier league games Villa played. The fact that the Major league soccer website is an official website of the American and Canadian league shows the report may actually be true as they do not always engage in idle transfer gossips.
It however remains to be see whether Wenger is trying to sign the player as a replacement for Arsenal’s current first choice goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. Although he can be very erratic, Szczesny has been in a superb form this season. He has so far managed to keep Arsenal’s summer loan signing Viviano out of the first team with his wonderful performance.
However, the likely signing of Guzan may be linked to the fact that Fabianski’s contract will be expiring in the summer and there is nothing pointing to Arsenal offering him a new contract.
