he swap deal involving Alexis Sanchez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be announced late on Monday or on Tuesday with both players having to update their work permits after undergoing medicals – which they are currently doing.
Sanchez flew to Manchester on a private jet on Sunday morning – posting footage on Instagram – and was later photographed being driven to United’s training ground at Carrington.
Personal terms had already been agreed with the 29-year-old forward with Mkhitaryan being released by United on Saturday after the deal was settled. He was pictured at a London hotel that evening and underwent his medical at Arsenal on Sunday with it expected to be completed on Monday.
Given Mkhitaryan is an Armenian, and Sanchez is Chilean, both players will also have to update their work permits although given their status in world football that will be a formality.
No transfer fee is involved in the deal. It is a straight swap which, given the clubs involved, and the players, is a remarkable move.
Sanchez is to become United’s best-paid player, with Telegraph Sport exclusively revealing last week the deal will cost Manchester United £180million over the four-and-a-half-year deal.
