After a season rife with transfer rumors linking him to some of Europe’s best teams, Hector Bellerin decided to put the speculation to rest, telling Sky Sports in a recent interview that he is “definitely happy at the club and will be here next season.”
Bellerin didn’t leave any room for spin in his comments, saying, “I’ve got a long contract, I have been in London for a very long time, this is what I call my home right now,” and that he is sure he will back for pre-season after (hopefully) a World Cup spot with Spain.
The right-back also heaped praise on Arsene Wenger, who Bellerin says treated him like a son: “Apart from missing him as a coach I am going to miss him as a person, miss his values and everything he has given to the club is going to be missed.”
The prospect of selling Bellerin never made sense from an Arsenal perspective, unless he wanted out. He’s still just 23 years old, a fixture in the starting lineup, and as he mentioned, signed long-term. He fits whatever the club’s plans are post-Wenger, even if it’s a full rebuild. He has his flaws as a player, but there’s little arguing he shouldn’t be part of the team’s core moving forward. Arsenal’s future is unknown right now, but fortunately, Hector Bellerin is excited to be a part of it.
