ARSENE WENGER believes swap deals could become common place over the next few years.
Arsenal and Manchester United completed a stunning exchange deal this week with Alexis Sanchez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan swapping clubs.
The transfer saga rumbled on for some time as all parties involved looked to get their negotiations done.
While talks were lengthy and complicated, Wenger was delighted to get Mkhitaryan in return for contract rebel Sanchez.
And he reckons the astronomical prices being asked for in the current client could see more swap deals be done in the future.
The Gunners chief said: “It could happen more yes, because the transfer prices are very high.
“We are as well in the position where the player had no value in three to four months, so that is of course important in our decision as well.
Arsenal could complete another high-profile swap deal before the transfer window closes.
The Gunners are eager to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund and could send Olivier Giroud to Germany on loan in return.
Asked if he thinks Aubameyang will join soon, Wenger said: “Confident or not confident? I don’t know.
“At the moment, we are not close to doing any deal, whether it’s Aubameyang or anyone else.
And then when pressed on the idea of Giroud going the other way, Wenger added: “The negotiations are not as far as that.
“You never know how close they are. These are the kind of things that, at the moment, are one of the possible movements.
“We have other things in mind as well and we have plenty of opportunities in different positions. The final decision is not made.”
