Arsenal were tagged as a selling club – time was when we sold most of our best players to be able offset the debt of the club. Players like Robin Van Persie, Sami Nasri and Cech Fabregas were left off our radar while they were at their peak.
However, the era that we sell our players have gone by. Unless a player wants to force a move out of the club, Arsenal are able to retain her players.
Arsenal and Spain international Hector Bellerin has been a subject of transfer interest for Barcelona but latest report now claims the Catalan club have beamed their search light to another player. The Spanish club have begun negotiations with Valencia over right back Joao Cancelo which would seemingly end their interest in the Arsenal man (via Daily Mirror).
Barcelona confirmed their interest in the player when vice president, Jorge Mestre didn’t exactly fill the fan base with confidence, following his comments.
“He’s a great player, there’s no doubt about that,” Mestre said. “Wenger convinced him to move [in 2011] and promised him something which we couldn’t.
“In many cases it’s good that they leave to develop as players and then return [with that experience].
“Look at the cases of Cesc [Fabregas], [Gerard] Pique, [Jordi] Alba and Denis Suarez… I hope the same thing will happen with [Sergi] Samper, too.”
Bellerin still has three years on his contract and it will be absurd for him to leave now. Arsenal are already preparing him a deal that will see his wage doubled.
Arsenal fans will be hoping that the deal does indeed go through and that Hector Bellerin will remain at the club. The interest from Manchester City doesn’t seem to be going away but perhaps the idea of returning to Barcelona would have been a more appealing prospect for the player.
