The last summer transfer window saw a more bullish Arsene Wenger, as the French tactician went all and bolstered every aspect of his squad.
We were heavily linked with a move for French striker Alexandre Lacazette but Ligue One club Lyon rebuffed all of our advances made for the goal poacher – now, there are reports that he is set sign an improved contract with the club.
There were reports earlier this year that the player was spotted having his medicals with Arsenal. However, although Lyon claimed the Gunners did make a bid of €37m, nothing substantial ever seemed to arise and the rumour floated away. Fart in the wind-style.
Arsenal rivals West Ham were also linked with a move for the player and it was understood then that they had a €57m bid also rebuffed by the French outfit.
With January transfer window already in sight, the Ligue club would certainly be wary of losing the player. They are taking no chances and will offer him a new, improved contract with a £62.3m release clause.
It was reported back in September that the Frenchman had rejected a new deal with Lyon because he realised that no one would actually ever pay that for him.
It seems he’s had a change of heart now, eh?
Lacazette has scored nine goals in seven Ligue 1 appearances so far this season.
