Inter Milan could make another attempt to sign Shkodran Mustafi in the summer, according to reports.

Mustafi was the subject of interest from Inter during the summer, but they failed to agree a deal with Arsenal.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), the German remains a target for Inter, but a move in January is “unrealistic”.

One of the biggest obstacles to any deal is that Mustafi is currently a first team regular with Arsenal.

He’s been a regular at the back since joining from Valencia, which is what made the initial reports so strange and unexpected.

If Arsenal were still willing to let him go, they would surely have to go and secure a replacement first.

That could be difficult to do mid-season and it would certainly be pricey.

A move in the summer would be more realistic, should Arsenal decide that they can upgrade.

Otherwise, there’s no real reason for the move to happen, especially as there is no concern about his contract length at this point.

Mustafi recently rubbished reports linking him to Inter Milan, claiming it was just “shit” that journalists had dug up to make a story.

He seems to be settled at Arsenal and was one of the standout performers against Spurs last weekend upon his return from injury, scoring the opening goal in the 2-0 win. If he’s unhappy and wants to leave, he’s certainly hiding it well.
