Steven N’Zonzi has been a transfer target for several clubs over the past few seasons after his displays for Sevilla have impressed many around Europe.
Those admirers have been Chelsea and Arsenal over the years with both clubs having a good look at maybe signing the 29-year-old, but having always passed up the opportunity.
You might have thought this would be the perfect chance for the central midfielder to really impress Didier Deschamps and look to nail down a spot for the rest of the tournament. The competition in that France midfield is rife, with Pogba joined by Blaise Matuidi and Nabil Fekir, not to mention the star Chelsea midfielder in N’Golo Kante.
But the opportunity was given to N’Zonzi to go out there and put in a really solid display and look to boss a midfield that contained a relative midfield novice in Chelsea’s Andreas Christensen.
However, the match proved why Arsenal and Chelsea might just have passed on the option of buying the player in the past with a display that really failed to impress anyone and a display that could well be his final start in the competition.
