Theo Walcott is reportedly keen on a loan move this month in order to increase his chances of getting picked for England’s World Cup squad over the summer.
Walcott has been linked with moves to Everton and Southampton over the last week, and claims that the 28-year-old is off in January only picked up after his poor showing against Nottingham Forest.
According to Goal, the ex-Saints man still believes he’s good enough to play for a top six team. If he can complete a loan move and play regular football until the end of the season, he might have a chance of signing for one with a year left on his contract at Arsenal.
More importantly, he might get to actually go to the World Cup.
The forward is yet to make a Premier League start this season, and has therefore been given limited chances to impress Gareth Southgate ahead of the World Cup in Russia.
He’s only made 15 appearances this term, and nine of those have been in the Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup. Still, he’s scored four goals and assisted five.
With this in mind, I do think he could excel at another top six club with regular minutes. Arsenal are said to be asking for £25m. DC sources claim that a move to Southampton is close.
