Arsenal have practically signed Granit Xhaka judging by the intensity of the media reports to that regard. However, should the deal break down and Arsenal fumble the deal like they did many others in the past, they should forget signing Sevilla Midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak who according to various reports is a Wenger target as well.
This is as Manchester United are now the clear favorites for the signature of the high rated Poland international according to a report by the SUN newspaper. The Red Devils have reported made an offer of £30m for the Poland international. Grzegorz Krychowiak was last summer thought to be on his way to the Emirates but the player chose to instead remain in Spain with Sevilla.
With Francis Coquelin in need of competition in Arsenal’s midfield, signing Grzegorz Krychowiak would make a lot of sense for Arsenal but there will be no need for him if we manage to pull through the signing of Granit Xhaka.
Grzegorz Krychowiak is no doubt a good player but a player like Granit Xhaka is what we need more. Having seen Xhaka play a couple of times, he is not solely a defensive midfielder but Xabi Alonso type of player. He can play the defensive midfield role with distinction but his passing ranges means he is not only good for stopping attacking moves of other teams but also initiating Arsenal’s attacking moves.
Should we get Xhaka, I won’t mind if United wins the race for Krychowiak but we must hurry up if we do not want to lose on both grounds. Remember when we lost Nuri Sahin to Liverpool years ago?
