Arsenal’s returnee striker Nicklas Bendtner has thanked Arsenal fans for their support and understanding. The Danish striker was returning to action for Arsenal after spending the last 2 years on loan. He spent the last 2 years on loan at Sunderland and Juventus. Last season, he suffered a knee ligament injury which ensures he never did well with Juventus.
He was about to be sold to Crystal Palace in the last transfer window before Wenger pulled the plug on the transfer after failing to secure a replacement striker. He was handed his first start for Arsenal in over two years yesterday in the capital one cup game against West Bromwich Albion. He set up Arsenal first goal ( scored by Thomas Eisfeld ) and scored his own penalty during the penalty shoot outs.
After helping Arsenal to the 4th round of the competition, the Dane posted an emotional message to his instagram page to thank Arsenal fans for giving him another chance.
“Very emotional return, but what better way than a win! Fans was absolutely incredible throughout the game and help us in difficult periods. For myself I was very moved by my reception and hearing my song again made my heart skip! Young players did ever so well and kept there cool in a difficult penalty shootout. Respect! Skipper! looking fresh!”
Hopefully the Dane is now a changed person. With just 1 year left on his Arsenal contract, it is an opportunity for him to redeem himself. If not to get a new contract with Arsenal but to secure a lucrative move away from the club next summer.
