With Arsenal’s defensive midfield problem sorted with the signing of Granit Xhaka, Arsenal now needs to sign a striker, a centre back and ideally a wing forward. On the striker front, Arsenal is said to have entered the race to sign highly rated AZ Alkmaar star Vincent Janssen who was just last week thought to be on his way to Tottenham.
Arsenal were initially thought to be the likeliest club to sign the player but all that changed as soon as the release clause of Jamie Vardy was triggered. This gave Tottenham the chance to jump ahead of Arsenal for the signature of the Dutchman but with the deal not 100% done, Arsenal are said to be ready to hijack the hijacker, well, obviously due to frustration of losing out on Jamie Vardy who seem to be the main target.
Janssen is reported to have been made a contract offer of £85,000 a week to convince him to move to Arsenal rather than Tottenham. Janssen scored 30 times last season and created 6 assists in 46 games which is a superb record. However, the doubt on his head is as a result of the fact that he plays in the Dutch league. The fact that the player is said to be available for just £12 million means signing him won’t be much of a risk as if he flops, he can always be sold and the loses cut.
He could go on to become another Robin Van Persie and he could end up as Alves Afonso who signed for Middlesborough from Feyernood having scored 32 goals the previous season but ended up flopping in the Premier League.
