Arsenal’s greatest undoing for the most part of their previous season’s has been the number of injuries sustained by key players and it seems the season will be no different – according to reports, Arsenal’s centre back Mertesacker (BFG) has been banjaxed with a knee injury and could be on the side lines for up to five months.
Mertesacker was left out of Arsenal’s squad that travelled to the USA for their pre-season tour after he sustained the injury last Friday in a friendly game against Lens. The reports as to the extent of the injury is yet uncertain but it is believed that the Emirates Landlord will make a statement on it.
Wenger may now be adjudged a seer as he had acquired Rob Holding from Bolton last week. Holding is impressive and can play in the same position as Mertesacker – However, the experience and fluid partnership between Mertersacker and Koscielny will be sorely missed. It is expected that Chambers will stand in for the Gunners Captain.
This is a major concern for Wenger as Mertesacker joins Paulista on the sideline. This is calling on the medical crew of Arsenal to be on their toes.
