There are more and more reports claiming Arsenal’s move for Karim Benzema has moved a step closer with the player agreeing personal terms with the club. Arsene Wenger has always been a fan of the French striker and is now even closer to signing him. Few days we reported the agreement and more media houses have now started reporting it – Caught offside, Tribalfootball, a goal.com journalist on twitter, a French journalist and now sports direct news are all reporting the agreement.
The Gunners failed in a late attempt to sign Benzema in the summer with the forward preferring to stay at Madrid, however his time at Bernabeu has become sour with the fans turning on him and he is starting to lose the support of the coaching staff.
He has opened up the possibility of a move to Arsenal and is keen to link up with Wenger as he knows he is wanted there. A move in January looks to be a formality with the French forward agreeing personal terms.
A four-year deal worth £80,000 has been agreed in principle ahead of a £22 million move however this has not been confirmed by Benzema, Madrid or Arsenal. Fans of the Gunners will know not to look to deeply in to any rumours as the Gunners endured a frustrating summer.
The club had apparently agreed personal terms with Gonzalo Higuain before he joined Napoli with similar rumours surfacing about Marouane Fellaini before his deadline day move to Manchester United.
Arsenal’s need for a striker has risen since then with Nicklas Bendtner proving why he couldn’t secure a transfer away in the summer and Yaya Sanogo injured and inexperienced. Wenger’s priority signing will be a striker and Benzema is a serious target but a deal isn’t likely to happen anytime soon.
