Roma’s sporting director Monchi admits it’s a ‘pleasure’ to be linked with Arsenal following reports suggesting that he will replace Sven Mislintat. Earlier this week, Arsenal confirmed that Mislintat has decided to leave the club after just 14 months as their head of recruitment. Arsenal are now looking to restructure following Mislintat’s departure and are assessing potential candidates to become their new technical director. Monchi, who worked closely alongside Unai Emery at Sevilla, is reportedly at the top of Arsenal’s shortlist and the Spaniard admits he is flattered to be linked with the club.
‘I know my name is being associated with Arsenal but I am concentrating on my job with Roma,’ Monchi told The Sun. ‘However it is a pleasure being linked with a club like Arsenal – but it is not first time that happens.’
It’s been reported that Emery has backed Arsenal in their pursuit of Monchi, who has just over two years left on his contract with Roma. Monchi has spent nearly two years at Roma but has a release clause in his deal with the Serie A club which would make it easier for Arsenal to recruit him. The 50-year-old has also been linked with taking up a similar position at Barcelona earlier this season
