TalkSport have revealed that Toulouse midfielder Etienne Capoue is delaying his move to Cardiff City in the hope Arsenal reignite their interest in him.
The French midfielder has been a long-term target of Arsene Wenger’s but the Frenchman is yet to make his interest official with a bid. Cardiff City however are not waiting around having a £9 million bid accepted for him last week.
Arsenal are yet to make a contributing impact on the transfer market with the free transfer of Yaya Sanogo’s the clubs only arrival so far and with a reported £70 million available, the pressure is on Wenger to bring big names in.
Although the majority of Arsenal’s targets have been identified as strikers, the club are also in the market for a midfield anchor as they still look for a replacement for Alex Song who left for Barcelona last summer.
Discussions between Capoue and Cardiff have been minimal with the 25-year old still hoping that Arsenal make a bid for him which he would have no hesitation at accepting. With this season being a World Cup year, Capoue is eager to play Champions League football to give him the best possible chance to make the France squad next summer.
Toulouse have said they would sell if the price is right and with Cardiff’s £9 million accepted, it seems that is the price Wenger must shell out to bring in Capoue.
