Medical Passed, + 5year Deal Agreed: Arsenal £40m Target Agrees Long-Term Deal With Club

Algerian wizard Riyad Mahrez has finally put to bed rumours of a move to Arsenal this summer, after the winger signed a new four-year deal with current BPL champions Leicester.

Mahrez helped The Foxes win the Premier League title last term and his exceptional displays saw him voted the PFA Player of the Year and Football Writers’ Player of the Year. The 25-year old has received interests from Premier League sides, as well as clubs outside England, due to his brilliant performances – but he has now ended all speculations by opting to remain at the King Power stadium until, at least, 2020.

However, the new contract does not include a release clause. Mahrez granted an interview earlier in the week that he would consider three clubs, saying he would be unable to turn them down if they want his services. The winger also met Chelsea boss Antonio Conte at the same hotel as the Blues but, Mahrez refuted claims of any contact with Chelsea.

Although signing a winger is not really Arsene Wenger’s priority, the inability to lure Mahrez to the Emirates will come as another huge blow to Arsenal supporters who are still hoping their club brings in one or two quality signings – preferably a centre-back – before the summer transfer window slams shut.

Arsenal will face Leicester next Saturday and they could be landed a third blow by The Foxes if they lose, as striker Jamie Vardy also turned down the Gunners before June’s European Championships in France.
