Marouane Fellaini has promised his Manchester United future will be resolved ‘soon’ after he entered the last week of his contract.
Fellaini, 30, rejected United’s offer of fresh terms in September and his current deal expires at midnight on Saturday. Jose Mourinho was optimistic about United’s chances of retaining the Belgian but Fellaini appears destined to leave the club after five years, amid interest from China, Turkey, AC Milan and Arsenal.
When asked about his contract situation with United, Fellaini replied: “You will know soon.”
Mourinho stressed in April that if United failed to retain Fellaini he would want to sign two midfielders in the summer transfer window.
“We are going to invest the basic to improve our squad,” Mourinho said after the FA Cup semi-final win over Tottenham. “We need to find a replacement for Michael Carrick, if Marouane Fellaini leaves, we need to find a replacement for Marouane Fellaini.”
United have replaced Carrick with £52million Brazilian Fred and shown interest in Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini. The MEN revealed United are looking to supplement Fred with a younger box-to-box option.
