Some reprieve have come Arsenal’s way after star midfielder Mesut Ozil was given a break from international duty. No need to fret, he isn’t injured, he was just excused alongside other juggernauts of the team Philip Lahm and Manuel Neuer. According to German coach Joachim Low, the trio are already assured of a place on the flight to Brazil (barring injuries), other players would be allowed to prove themselves in the friendlu against England.
“The game against England is the last chance to test tactics and personnel before the World Cup,” the Mannschaft boss said in a statement.
“Lahm, Neuer and Ozil are the absolute core, for me it’s important to give other players in key positions a chance to prove themselves against a great team like England.”
Thanks Low for doing the reasonable thing. I wonder why some managers would be risking their best legs in mindless and inconsequential friendlies, what is the use of a friendly won at the expense of a valuable player injured?
With Low’s decision, Ozil would be able to take a well deserved full week rest. He hasn’t really rested since signing for Arsenal on deadline’s day, it has been from Premier League action to Champions League adventure then to international assignment. Now, he can have a full week of rest from anything football and should be ready to fire when Southampton come to town next weekend. Once again, thanks Joachim.
