Joel Campbell is back in training with Real Betis, after recovering from his second long-term injury of the campaign.
Campbell told his website Sports by Campbell that he’s back in action in training and just waiting to get out on the pitch.
“I’m happy to be back with the others,” he said.
“I feel good, I want to return to the pitch. Step-by-step as I have always said, the time will come. For now, I continue working to be able to contribute to the team and to our goals.”
Real Betis seemed pretty pleased to have the forward back as well, as they announced his return on the club Twitter account:
According to Marca, Campbell isn’t quite back to full training at this point.
He took part in the squad’s session on Thursday, but finished early. There’s no sense in rushing the Arsenal loanee back just to see him pick up another injury. I’m sure they’ll ease him back to full match fitness over the next couple of weeks.
Nonetheless, it’s good just to see him back out there.
The 25-year-old underwent a knee operation in the summer, and didn’t return until October. On his comeback appearance, he scored one and assisted another in just 13 minutes. That comeback was short-lived, and by the end of the month he was back on the sidelines with a sprained ankle.
Hopefully this time they’ll take a little more care over easing him back in.
Then it’s just a case of Campbell staying fit and putting in performances for the remainder of the season so he can secure another move somewhere next season.
He really deserves the chance to secure a permanent home sooner rather than later and it will be easier for him to do that if he’s actually able to play.
Great news to see him back and fit again.
