The injury problems for Arsenal have been one of the main reasons the club have not been able to compete for titles in previous seasons. This season has been better as most of the injuries are short term.
Arsenal Captain Per Mertesacker has revealed that he has made progress on his recovery from a knee injury. This is according to reports.
In his absence, Shkodran Mustafi has been partnering Laurent Koscielny at the heart of defense for Arsenal, while the aforementioned France international has been given the Captains arm band.
Given the stellar performance of Mustafi, it will be difficult for Mertesacker to get into Arsenal’s first team. However, he has revealed that he is close to returning.
‘I know that I need to allow myself time. The more time I allow my knee, the longer I’ll be able to play football,’ Mertesacker told Kicker.
‘I can increase the workload already and I am no longer in pain.
‘I believe that I can reach a level again on which I am important for the team. I have the feeling that this is not the end.
‘I look at the perspectives for me and my family, and I think that I’ll intensify those thoughts from January on.
‘That’s also the time when you can listen to other things [offers] when your contract is expiring.’
