ARSENAL were told they should sign Luke Shaw when he was 16 years old.
That’s according to former Gunners defender Martin Keown, who says that he made club bosses aware of Shaw’s ability after seeing him playing for Southampton.
The England international went on to play for the Saints first-team before securing a £30m transfer to Manchester United aged just 18.
And now the 23-year-old seems to finally be coming into his own at Old Trafford after initially finding it difficult to make an impact.
Shaw has been recalled into the England squad after being left in the cold in recent months.
And Keown says he immediately knew that Shaw had a natural talent when he saw him play.
“I first watched him as a 16-year-old playing on a training pitch for Southampton against Reading,” he told the Daily Mail.
“In the first 10 seconds, he whipped a ball across the box with such power and precision that I just thought, ‘Wow’.
“I was standing next to an Arsenal scout and I immediately said, ‘You’ve got to sign him’.
