Raul Meireles believes Luis Suarez has done the right thing by making peace with Liverpool rather than forcing through a move to Arsenal.
The former Liverpool midfielder doesn’t believe Arsenal will be challenging for honours this season making a move to the Emirates pointless. He played with Suarez at Anfield before a brief spell at Chelsea where he was sold to Fenerbahce, Arsenal’s Champions League qualifier opponents.
He voiced his opinion on Arsenal’s pursuit of Suarez in the build up to the game.
“My advice to Luis would be that he shouldn’t leave Liverpool for Arsenal.”
“I know he wants to play in the Champions League and if it was Real Madrid or Bayern Munich who came for him then I could understand him wanting to leave.”
“In reality, though, Arsenal are not going to win the Champions League or the Premier League so it makes no sense for him.”
“My advice would be to have another season at Liverpool and wait for one of the top five clubs in Europe to approach him – because he is good enough for that, for sure.”
He also feels Fenerbahce are more than a match for Arsenal and their fans will help them conquer the Gunners.
“When you consider how tough a place Turkey is to visit, we have every reason to fell confident we can beat Arsenal.”
“The fans create a real atmosphere here and it is intimidating for the opposition. We are confident we could go and win in London if we needed to.”
The Sukru Saracoglu Stadium is famous for it’s hostile atmosphere and is an exetremely difficult place to go but Arsenal will be boosted by the 5-2 victory on their last visit.
