According to Sport Bild, Liverpool and Arsenal will go head-to-head for the signature of Hoffenheim attacker Kerem Demirbay at the end of the season.

What’s the story?

Demirbay, 24, has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the last couple of transfer windows, but Hoffenheim have managed to keep him in the Bundesliga.

The German international has a £28m release clause in his current deal, however, and according to Sport Bild, both Liverpool and Arsenal have agreed to meet the buy-out figure.

The report adds that representatives from Liverpool and Arsenal have already met with Demirbay’s agent to confirm that they are willing to pay the £28m at the end of the season.

As a result, it appears that the versatile attacker will have the choice of whether he moves to Anfield or the Emirates Stadium once the 2017-18 campaign has concluded.

Demirbay is in line for a spot in the Germany squad that travels to the 2018 World Cup, and he will hope to have a move sealed ahead of the tournament in Russia.

What are Demirbay’s credentials?

Demirbay spent time with Schalke 04 during his youth, but the attacker started his professional career at Borussia Dortmund – representing their second team during the 2012-13 season.

He later moved on to Hamburger SV, but only made three Bundesliga appearances for the club between 2013 and 2016 before sealing a move to Hoffenheim in the summer of 2016.

Demirbay is a two-time Germany international, and he has been in decent form for his club this season – scoring twice and registering five assists in 23 appearances in all competitions.

There is a general feeling that the attacker is yet to fulfil his potential, but his ability to play in a number of midfield positions make him an attractive proposition for Liverpool and Arsenal.
