Sport Review understands that Luis Suarez has been left out of Liverpool’s squad to play Valerenga in Norway fuelling speculation about a move to Arsenal.
Liverpool stated the striker had picked up a foot injury during training leading to his absence from the squad but it is common for clubs to announce injuries when players are discussing moves away.
Suarez joins Wayne Rooney and Gareth Bale on the ‘sidelines’ as all three players seek moves away.
Brendan Rodgers has been clear on Suarez’s future declaring the player will remain at Anfield unless a club meets their £55 million valuation. Arsenal have had two bids rejected so far, one at £35 million and the other £40 million plus £1.
It’s unlike Arsene Wenger to spend that sum on an individual player and even rarer for the manager to reveal his transfer plans, so Suarez’s withdrawal from the squad could mean progress in transfer negotiations.
“I had never said that we made a bid to Liverpool. Now I can tell you that we made one, so at least that’s information”
“I wouldn’t like to talk openly about negotiations because that’s not my target in a press conference. I can just repeat what I said yesterday; there is one month in front of us and we’ll work very hard to strengthen our squad.”
Wenger was talking after his side’s 2-1 loss to Galatasaray, their first defeat of pre-season and was clear on his intentions to strengthen in the remaining weeks of the transfer window with Suarez his priority target.
