Leandro Damiao To Arsenal?

Arsenal have been linked with several strikers ahead of the winter window but they seemed to have met a brick wall in their pursuit of them but reprieve seems to have come their way with the revelation that Brazilian striker Damiao could be available on the market. Internacional president Giovanni Luigi admitted that the club could sell Leandro Damiao this summer.

Luigi told RBS TV: “There are no negotiations under way as the league just ended on Sunday. The possibility of Leandro Damiao leaving is still open, but nobody has contacted me.”

Interesting thoughts from the club president. Is he trying to offload Damiao or the club is broke and trying to raise funds? The Brazilian has been on Spurs’ radar for many seasons and one would have expected them to spend big on him in the summer when they had cash to burn but they didn’t move for him and turned their attention to Soldado instead. Apparently, he isn’t as good as he is been bandied around.

Arsenal need a striker but not one that would arrive for a big fee, command huge wages and turn out not been as good and the club would now have problems selling him owing to the hefty wages, a problem the club had with Denilson and are facing with Bendtner.

Arsenal certainly need a striker but they need to be careful and meticulous at who they go for. They could opt for a decent stop gap in the winter window and go for broke in the summer. More top strikers would be available in the summer a la Rooney and Suarez. The Uruguayan would certainly be on the move in the summer if Liverpool fail to make top 4 ditto for Rooney who could leave Manchester United if the worst happens and the Red Devils fail to make top 4. Even if they do, his future is still uncertain after rebuffing efforts to extend his deal.

With him having a year left on his deal in the summer, Manchester United might be forced to eat the humble pie by selling him or risk loosing him for free in 2 summers time. Arsenal will be well poised tom pounce as they have cash to spend both on transfer fee and wages. The presence of a player Rooney really rates Mesut Ozil could help the Gunners pip Chelsea to his signature.
