At the end of last season, it was obvious that Arsenal need to bolster their squad – thankfully, Wenger had a hefty transfer warchest, which he unleashed in the signing of Swiss international Granit Xhaka from Borrussia Monchengladback.
Since making the big money move and despite impressing in most of the games he was starred, Arsene Wenger believes the 24-year is yet to adapt to Arsenal’s tactics, which is why he is left on the bench more often than not.
The 24-year-old has started five times in the Premier League this season out of 12 games, and had played 90 minutes just four times in all competitions.
And Wenger has admitted Xhaka still has work to do to earn his spot in the starting XI.
“He needs to adapt, then we need to find the balance,” said the French manager.
“We have the positional play, he plays in a deeper lying midfield position, he passes through the lines.
“He needs to adapt to the way we play and the tactical pace of the English game. I am confident he will do very well.
“If you look at Thierry Henry at the start when he came here, he was not playing. He did not play until November, he was as well 23 years old. We are in November now.”
However, i disagree with Arsene Wenger. Initially, he claimed Santi Cazorla had an understanding with Coquelin which is why he prefers their pair but Santi is injured, Coquelin has not been doing greatly, yet he is preferred over Xhaka.
Fans have criticised Wenger for his poor selection in our recent games.
