After failing to win the Premier League title for 12 years, with the latest lose to Leicester City, you would expect Arsenal to be more bullish in the transfer market than any of our rivals. Alas, despite having a hefty transfer war-chest, we have been able to sign one established player thus far.
According to reports, Arsenal have been scouting Portugal international William Carvalho, with Arsene Wenger keen on reinforcing his injury prone midfield.
Carvalho, 24, has been on the radar of Arsenal since the beginning of time. You have to wonder why the people who are writing these things think that Arsenal need to scout a player they’ve have allegedly watched on a regular basis since it was decided that they needed to sign a defensive midfielder a number of seasons ago.
Wenger had stated that he will bolster his squad but he is definitely not looking at the midfield area. Despite the injuries to Ramsey and Wilshere, Arsenal still have enough legs to play in midfield.
Carvalho is valued at €45m but with the antecedent of Arsene Wenger, he cannot starch that amount on a player that may not find a place on the bench for Arsenal.
There are other Sporting players that Arsenal have been linked with recently – Islam Slimani and Jao Mario to name just two – but it is William whom Record in Portugal claim that the club are considering.
Carvalho is part of the Portguese team that conquered the Europe 2016 Championship.
