Arsenal manager Unai Emery is looking to sign Real Valladolid defender Fernando Calero, according to reports.
The Gunners have lost Rob Holding to injury for the rest of the season, a knee injury during the recent 2-2 draw with Manchester United.
With Konstantinos Mavropanos also currently sidelined and club captain Laurent Koscielny yet to appear for the first team since rupturing his Achilles in May, Unai Emery is on the lookout for potential reinforcements in January.
And that has reportedly led them to 23-year-old Calero, impressing for a Valladolid side that have conceded just 15 times in 15 games in La Liga thus far this term.
Calero could be considered a late bloomer as he only made his professional debut a year ago, at the age of 22, but his performances for Valladolid have been impressive and as such, plenty of clubs are keeping tabs on him.
The Spaniard has a release clause of just £10m into his contract with Valladolid but he insists that he wants to stay at his current club until the end of the season, who he’ll refuse a transfer even if someone meets that clause.
However, the 23-year-old will look to move in the summer and it appears that Arsenal are at the front of the queue to sign him.
