The France international has endured form and fitness issues during a debut campaign in England, but has seen his value hailed by a supportive coach

Alexandre Lacazette is capable of playing a No. 10 role for Arsenal, says Steve Bould, with the struggling striker needing only to look at Dennis Bergkamp for inspiration.

The France international arrived at Emirates Stadium from Lyon in the summer of 2017 as a £46 million addition expected to lead the Gunners’ goal charge.

A bright start to his time in England bode well, but form and fitness issues have crept in.

Lacazette has netted just once in his last 13 appearances and faces added competition for places from record signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Assistant manager Bould has, however, suggested that a change of position could be on the cards, telling reporters:  “He’s actually a very, very, very good football player. He could play at number 10 – he’s really good.

“He’s not just a goalscorer, he’s not an out-and-out striker, he can play.

“The physical element has surprised him and caught up with him, which it does to many players who come from abroad. We’re hoping he comes back sharp.”

Lacazette has been sidelined since a derby defeat to Tottenham on February 10 with a knee complaint, but is ready to return and is being backed to come good.

Bould formed part of an Arsenal side back in the 1990s which included the iconic figure of Bergkamp, and he sees similarities between the struggles the Dutch maestro endured after arriving in the Premier League and those currently troubling a marquee signing.

The former Gunners defender added: “This little break might have done him the world of good actually.
