Arsene Wenger is already looking forward to January with a bid lined up for France striker Karim Benzema. The Arsenal boss was rumoured to be interested in a late offer for the striker before the end of the summer window but the striker’s agent ruled out a move with the Gunners landing Madrid team meat Mesut Özil instead.
Benzema’s place in the team is not guaranteed despite the sale of Gonzalo Higuain to Napoli and with the World Cup this summer, the player will want to make sure he is involved in regular first team football to have the best chance of being selected for the national team.
He has until January to cement his place as Madrid’s first eleven, should he fail to do that he will have to assess his options and Arsenal have made their interest firm. Madrid could also revive their bid for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez, which would all but signal the end of Benzema’s career at the Bernabeu, and he could follow in Özil’s footsteps.
The Emirates club have the financial power to complete a move, which would exceed £25 million despite breaking their transfer record to land Özil for £42.4 million.
