As rumours surrounding whether or not Swiss international, Josip Drmic had signed for the Gunners; former German international Lothar Mattaus has maintained his stand that the player is on his way to London just as he said last Saturday on Sky Germany.
The player, who responded to the rumour surrounding his move to London by denying he had a wife let alone asking any woman to look for an apartment for him in the capital.
Mattaus, while speaking to Tages Anzieger, a Swiss Newspaper, maintained his story was true, and that the player would indeed be moving to the Emirates in the summer in a deal he said is worth £8 Million.
“Drmic goes to Arsenal for the £8m transfer fee. [It is a] fact: A woman whose name I know is looking for an apartment for him in London. I have been right about Lewandowski and [Adrian] Ramos. I will be proved right again in the end,” Mattaus said.
It would seem we have not heard the last on this transfer that is bound to drag on until either of both clubs come out publicly to deny or confirm the rumour.
For those familiar with the Arsenal way of doing things; you will recall that the club always demand secrecy when it comes to transfer dealings with players and other clubs. One recent case that comes to mind is that of Lukas Podoski, whose transfer generated a lot of rumours until it was finally confirmed by the club.
On that occasion, the player (Podoski) himself had denied a deal was in place to take him to London. His club, manager, and even different a couple of sources also denied a deal was in place; but this did not stop the press from writing their reports.
Josip Drmic does have traces of the Wenger kind of signing, and the fact that he comes at just £8 Million makes it one transfer to keep an eye on as the window approaches.
At just 21 years of age, Drmic is one of the most prolific strikers in the 2013/2014 Bundesliga season with 16 goals; one short of the total goals scored so far by Bayern striker Mario Mandzukic, who is also on Arsenal’s radar.
