Ivan Gazidis Confirms Wenger Will Not Renew Contract Beyond This Season

ARSENAL chief Ivan Gazidis has revealed the club have a plan in place to deal with Arsene Wenger’s departure.

Wenger is out of contract this summer and could step down from the job after 20 years.

There is talk of another extension but Eddie Howe was recently linked with taking over from the Frenchman.

And, in the minutes provided from the Arsenal supporters’ forum that were published yesterday, Gazidis insisted work has been done to move on from Wenger when he does move on.

Do we have a plan in place if Wenger decides to go at the end of the season?

IG said that it would be a big challenge when the day arrives that the manager leaves.

A lot of work has been done on infrastructure in recent years which will help insulate us when we make that difficult transition.

He confirmed there is a plan in place but we obviously do not talk about it publicly.

He reinforced the fact everyone is currently very positive about the direction and looking forward to the season.

Pressure is growing on Wenger after failing to win the title last season and an uncertain start to this campaign.

Arsenal were beaten by Liverpool at the Emirates on the opening day and were then held to a goalless draw by Leicester.

They have recovered somewhat though after taking three wins from three and a respectable point in the Champions League away at Paris Saint-Germain.

However there is unrest in the stands and Wenger recently admitted his side were finding it easier to play away from home.

“Away from home, we look more convincing at the moment than at home,” he said. “I believe that when we lost our first game, it was a mental shock for us and for our supporters.

“Straight away you have a little bit of scepticism and doubt in your head. So it was important for us to win the Southampton game. Hopefully now we can have the same quality at home.”
