Arsenal new boy Jordan McEneff admits he’s excited to get going at the club after signing with the Gunners.
The Republic of Ireland youth international signed a two-year deal with the Gunners this week after impressing on trial in north London.
Steve Morrow, Arsenal’s head of recruitment, recommended the youngster to Arsene Wenger after noting his eye-catching performances in Ireland and he’s one of a number of youngsters to sign on scholarship terms this week.
McEneff is the younger brother of former Tottenham ace Aaron and the 16-year-old says he wants to break into the Gunners’ first team.
‘I’m probably the first Irish person over here [at Arsenal] in a good few years as well which is even better,’ said McEneff.
‘The last two years have gone quick so now it’s only the start.
‘I’m the only one not from England that they’ve signed, so obviously that’s a good sign and they can pick from anywhere really.
‘The manager was saying, everyone might come over and think it’s going to be easy but they told us it was going to be hard work. Hopefully I do my best, impress and get into the first team some day.’
Arsenal have already bagged Sead Kolasinac this summer on a free transfer from Schalke and expect to complete a £52m deal for Alexandre Lacazette in the next 24 hours.
The French striker was in London today to undergo his medical and will break the club’s transfer record when he completes his move from Lyon.
