Former England and Arsenal international Paul Mariner believes Arsenal fans need to wait till their team play tough teams before rejoicing. Arsenal only yesterday cruised to a 2-0 victory over Italian’s deputy champions but Paul Mariner is not totally convinced.
Wenger’s men are currently top of the English premier league table after winning 5 out of 6 games played so far in the EPL season. Alot of people believe the gunners have what it takes to end their 9 years trophy drought but the former gunner believes it is too early to say whether Arsenal can finally win something this year or not.
“People need to put the brakes on slightly,” he told Extra Time. “They’ve had two fantastic results and are sitting pretty on the top of their Champions League group at the moment, but they have some very difficult games coming up.
“They’ve got the real ‘meat on the bones’ in the Premier League coming up in November and December. They’ve also got some tough Champions League games.
“I’m much more optimistic with the way the side is defending, the way Arsene Wenger is rotating his squad, there’s real depth on the bench. We’ll see this side of Christmas just where Arsenal are.”
Although it is early days in the season truly but I personally believe we have a good chance of finally winning something this season. However, we can not afford to be complacent. The season is still very young and there is definitely going to be many twists and turns and if we are not prepared, we may be caught wanting which may lead to us extending our almost a decade long trophy drought.
