Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere will turn down interest from West Ham United this summer to try and salvage his fledgling career at the Emirates Stadium, according to latest reports.
So say the Telegraph, who believe the long-serving playmaker is putting in the effort in training to boost his fitness ahead of the new season. Injury ended his spell in the South Coast short and Wenger recently admitted Wilshere had a lot of catching up to do in regard to squad fitness.
The English international returned to Arsenal after a season-long loan spell with Bournemouth in 2016/17 and is targeting a starting place this coming campaign. He could provide cover for Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla if he can ensure of his own fitness in 2017/18, something he’s so far been unable to do.
Wilshere has had a number of clubs interested in his signature – Italian Serie A side Sampdoria, Turkish Super Lig outfit Antalyaspor, as well as Premier League club West Ham United – but wants to challenge Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka for game time.
It’s bad news for the Hammers, who were keen for more creativity in the midfield to provide the ammunition for their new striker Javier Hernandez. Arsenal were believed to be requesting £20m for the 25-year-old, who has just 12 months on his deal.
